Introducing Lotus

In real life I’m a humanities professor who is moving toward retirement and exploring educational opportunities in the virtual world Second Life.  In SL, I’m a three-month-old avatar named Lotus Greene who is trying to find out what she wants to be when she grows up :).

I call this blog “Educating Lotus” because in it I plan to record aspects of my adventures in virtual learning. I may also write about things I’m learning through other virtual experiences, like books and films.

From time to time, I’m sure that non-virtual experiences will find their way into my entries – like right now:  It’s the weekend, when I usually have more time to go inworld, but I can’t this weekend because an SL viewer ate all the power in my old PC (at least that’s how it seems).  I’m writing on an even older laptop.  This morning I ordered a new PC with lots of oomph in its chip and video card.

Like so many avatars, I enjoy taking photos of places I visit and will often  include some in my blog. I hope to improve my photo skills by taking an SL photography class; meanwhile, I’ll do the best I can to provide decent images of learning spaces and interesting places.

About Lotus Greene

I started the blog called "Educating Lotus" in 2011, shortly after I began exploring the virtual world Second Life. With friends I met there, I migrated my virtual life to World of Warcraft (WoW) and joined an educators' guild. Lotus Greene is my gamer name, one I kept when I started another blog in 2015 called "Not Quite Ignored," which originally focused on the lighter side of news and now also includes political news and opinions.
